Journey To Weight Loss Surgery: Post-Op

Hey curvies!!!

If you follow my fitness page on Instagram you may have noticed my name change and a date. My second Instagram account is now Curvybee_RNY_ (here). Since January of this year I have been on this Weight Loss Surgery (wls) journey with the support from Nurse Practitioner, surgeon, my family, boyfriend, and friends I am proud to say I had my surgery May 12, 2017.

Let me just say that since surgery my main issue was simply nausea. It's said to be normal and I actually believe that, because certain foods my body no longer likes. One thing I can no longer handle is beef. Beef doesn't do my body well and I am willing to give it up forever. Also, early on I was drinking liquids too soon after eating and that caused me to be nauseous after eating. For some reason I thought I had to wait 15 minutes, but later found out I had to wait 30 minutes those extra minutes make a real difference. Those extra 15 minutes make a world of difference.

Another thing I was experiencing dizziness and feelings of weakness. At first I thought I was overreacting or that it was all in my head, but after speaking with my nutritionist for my 6 week post-op I spoke to my PCP and learned I was suffering from low blood pressure. She took me off of my blood pressure pills for 3 weeks and after my follow-up I no longer need them. Yayyyyy!!!! I have since been cleared to workout and I have been doing really well. I am currently down 73 lbs and still cannot believe that. If you or anyone know need someone to talk to or ask question feel free to reach out. With this journey I want to help as many people as possible.

Summer Style Favs: Palazzo Pants

Hey curvies!!!

I am so excited to bring you all a new four part series "Summer Style Favs." With having surgery before Summer my energy was very low for the most part. I finally feel like myself.

Second up is palazzo pants. One of my all-time go to summer favs is palazzo pants (similar). Palazzo pants (similarare the most comfortable, chic, and casual pair of pants you will ever wear. These pants literally only require a body, nothing more. I was so happy about these pants the moment I laid eyes on them. The pattern is perfect.

This outfit was super easy to complete. My number one obsession is tank tops. I really have it bad. I buy tank top every chance I get and the store does not matter. I grabbed a black tank top from my closet and paired it with these gorgeous pants. I have been dying to try some flatform sandals and they were perfect with these pants. I added a cute little bucket bag and enjoyed my day.

Style Notes: The pants (similar) are true to size in a 2x. The tank top is super stretchy in an large. The flatform sandals are true to size and wide feet friendly in a 10.

Graphic Tees and Skinny Jeans

Hey curvies!!!!

I think you all know by now that I am not a jean girl. I'm the girl that will opt for a super cute dress or skirt, always. Jeans are more of a struggle for me instead of a place of comfort. Having thick thighs and a big butt adds to jean struggle. I think my jean struggle is finally gone!!!!! I found these super stretchy not really jegging like skinny jeans. Now skinny jeans can be tricky. I have found skinny jeans where I have to go up 3 sizes and they look horrible, I have also found jeans where they fit perfectly but the ankles are loose and distorted. These jeans are everything from cute, trendy, and comfortable!

This outfit was easy to complete because I am however, a graphic tee girl. I have basically saw so many people in these outspoken screen tees but never really ordered. Well, they were a vendor at the TCFStyle Expo and I could not pass up the opportunity to get my hands on some cute graphic tees. I completed this outfit with my red converse and it feels so right

Style Notes: These jeans are super stretchy I am a size 22 and I sized down to an 18. The graphic tee is true to size and I wearing a 1x. The converse are also true to size and I am wearing a 7 1/2 in men which is a 9 1/2 in women.

Summer Style Favs: Lace

Hey curvies!!!

I am so excited to bring you all a new four part series "Summer Style Favs." With having surgery before Summer my energy was very low for the most part. I finally feel like myself and first up in this series is lace!!!

Lace has always been a stylish texture of clothing. Most women can not live without an item of lace. I honestly did not become a fan a huge fan of lace until my mid-20's. I would shy away from everything lace, I really can not explain why, but these days I can not get enough of it. Lace to me screams grown and sexy. You really do not have to do a lot with lace pieces other than to simply make them the center of attention.

This dress is just that, the center of attention. As a lover of all things pink, having a pink lace dress is icing on the cake! I wanted this dress to take center stage. I wanted to add texture with a denim jacket but the dress by itself felt so right. I added a powder pink handbag with a red fur-ball to add layers to this outfit. The red sandals are the absolute best and were perfect for the dress.

Style Notes: This dress is true to size in a 2x. I am wearing a size 10 in the sandals and they are also true to size.

How An Introvert Takes On The TCFStyleExpo

Hey curvies!!!

That moment when you feel like Summer is just beginning! I have not smiled as much as I did this past weekend in FOREVER!!! This shy Memphis girl traveled to the TCFStyleExpo in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mom and Sister
Now if you are super shy this might make you cringe! I went to this event with my mom and sister, but did not wear my glasses Friday night! I basically missed so much and really did not know who I was looking at until I was face to face with someone. I had no idea who I would instantly click with because it is so easy to give the occasional "you look so cute" comment under a beautiful photo or simply reply with "yasssss" under one of your photos. Now granted I did not realize I was super shy until my mom and sister walked away from me leaving me all by myself. People were walking up to me calling me "Curvaceously Bee" and I smiling from ear to ear not sure who I was talking to. Yeah, my glasses are my world.

Tiffany and I
Ericka, Tiffany, and I
Body Politics: Finding OUR Identity & Representation Discussion Panel
Sandra of La Pecosa Preciosa and I
I was so excited when I met Tiffany of Beautiffullyme because we actually had time to chat and we clicked! Yeah, so this shy girl made a blogger friend. I was so happy. As I was talking to Tiffany, Ericka of Shapely Louise walked passed and all three of us began to chat and actually headed to the "Body Politics: Finding OUR Identity & Representation Discussion" panel together. I was so excited I texted my mom and sister and was like "I'm good." The panel was awesome and my anxiety slightly lifted.

Tiffany, Faith, and I
Big Impact Beyond the Runway Panel
Saturday was sooooo much better because I had my glasses nearby. I was able to attend the blogger brunch were Marie Danee was being interviewed by Dia&Co. As I was sitting Tiffany came in and ended up sitting right by me, it was cool to know someone sitting at your table. After the brunch I was able to take pictures with Tiffany and Faith of Faithfully Yours, she was so nice too. I was able to attend the Big Impact Beyond the Runway Panel and really enoyed it. I also got to see so many bloggers and shop with some of my favorite brands. I enjoyed the TCFStyleExpo and look forward to attending next year.

10 Things I Learned About Myself

  1. Family is everything to me. I enjoy being around my family. When we are together I laugh until I can barely breath.
  2. Time is important. I learned to value my time and only give it to those that are worthy.
  3. Sleep is important. Recently I have been trying my best to get 8 hours of sleep because anything less has me cranky.
  4. My facial expressions speak louder than words. I should never play poker. Ever!
  5. I'm afraid of white denim. Yeah, this will remain a fact until I can find the perfect pair.
  6. I can only be myself. I remember worrying about how people would perceive me and if they would like me or even get me. Now I could careless. I love my personality and not everyone will understand.
  7. I am cool with being alone. I remember always wanting people around, but these days I am in complete peace by myself.
  8. Hot Chick will forever be my favorite movie of all time! I watched it this past weekend and still laughed hysterically.
  9. I love school! I graduate with my master's degree in September and I am already considering another degree.
  10. Working out is an outlet for me. Working out helps clear my head, sleep better, and helps me be more productive at work.

Once I made my choice on which surgery I wanted, I then was hit with a laundry list of things to do to ensure I would be approved for my surgery. I started this journey back in January and with all of the testing and screenings I was done around April. I think the most helpful part of this process was attending two nutritional seminars that aided in a "this is what you are getting yourself into" type of format. The classes helped me plan my menus for pre-op and post-op. I was on a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery and it helped me build my discipline as well as work torwards proper planning for after my surgery.

For The Love of Blue: The Kimono

Hey curvies!!!

I am super excited to bring you all a new four part series "For the Love of Blue." Now pink is still my all-time favorite color, but over the years I have grown extremely fond of blue. I really feel like it looks amazing on my skin! Whether it’s a super sexy maxi dress or a nice pair of pants blue makes me fall in love.

Sorry for the delay!!! Third up is this amazing kimono that I styled here. I was tempted to sell it during my latest closet sale but could not part with it. I wanted to find a use for it even though it was super cool to wear it with the bodycon and even better styling it with boyfriend jeans

I wanted the kimono (similar) to be the center of attention, yet again. I opted for a plain white tank, my favorite clothing item btw, and tucked it in. The jeans are an item I have had for months and are kind of too big but the perfect wash with the destroyed detailing on the front. I added some super cute blue heels with a matching purse to put emphasis on the blue. I added a super cute statement necklace to finish this look. Enjoy!

Style Notes: The kimono (similar) is true to size in a 2x. The jeans were true to size at one point in a 24, but now a couple sizes too big. The tank is super stretchy in an XL. The sandals are true to size in a 10 and a bit narrow.
